GENERAL EVENT & RACE LEG SPECIFIC RULES & REGULATIONS
GENERAL:
.Once you’ve read the general rules, make sure you read the ‘race-leg specific rules’ and the ‘race waiver’.
.You must have a timing chip. Timing chips will be available at registration. There will be a R50 refundable deposit required should you require a timing chip. Your deposit will be refunded when you hand your timing chip in at the organizers table at the end of the event.
.The commencing of the two ‘sea legs’ of the overall event (surfski & swim) will be strictly subject to weather conditions on the day. Safety will remain first priority and decisions to cancel any sea leg of the race will be determined by NSRI (National Sea Rescue Institute) and ITAA (International Tri Athlete Association) regulations.
.No entry fees will be refunded following the cancellation of any of the race legs as a result of Anchor Challenge race organizers making such a decision in the interest of the participants safety and in adhering to national safety precaution regulations.
.Participants must display their race numbers at all times. Race number must be worn on the top item of clothing. Participants completing the swim event must have their numbers written on their upper arms in a bold, clearly visible water-resistant black colour.
.In order for a team to remain competitive, each respective participating team member must complete their particular leg of the race within the allotted time. If a team member is unable for whatever reason to complete their leg, a fellow-team member may take over, but the team shall thereafter be deemed “non-competitive” and will not qualify to participate in any race placing and/or prize giving. The chief referee shall rule on any such matter observed or brought to his attention.
.Teams who do not stick to the criteria of male, female, mixed or pair’s teams, will be deemed as “non-competitive” for race placing and prize award purposes and will not be recognized in the results.
.If ordered by the official race medical doctor to withdraw, any competitor must immediately comply. In such a case, rule No 6 above will apply.
.Seconding may not take place on any of the race legs. Seconding may only take place between race leg events. Team seconds may assist participants between events including repairing of any broken equipment (punctures etc.)
.Mixed 4-member teams must contain at least 2 persons of the opposite sex.
.Helmets must be worn on the mountain bike cycle leg.
.A swim cap must be worn on the swim leg.
.Drafting on the mountain bike leg is allowed. However, no drafting whatsoever is allowed from any vehicles, “outside” cyclists or other team members.
.Competitors are responsible for their own safety and must observe the normal rules of the road (particularly applicable to the mountain bike leg). Please note there is no road closure for the mountain bike leg. There will be marshals and/or traffic officials at certain strategic points of the race who will assist in directing traffic.
.Cut off times for the end of the each race leg must be strictly adhered to.
.Wetsuits are allowed for the swim providing they comply with ITAA regulations. No swimming aides (e.g. flippers, fins etc) are permitted.
.Participants must obey all instructions from race organizers, marshals, traffic officers and officials. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
.Don’t litter. Teams and individual participants will be disqualified if found littering.
.Irresponsible driving or behavior by team members or seconds may result in disqualification.
.The chief referee shall rule on any matter observed or brought to his attention.
.An appeal, together with an appeal deposit of R500.00, may be lodged against any decision of the Chief Referee by submitting such an appeal in writing to the Chief Referee within 20 minutes of announcement of the race results. The appeal deposit shall be refunded if the appeal is upheld.
.Participants may only compete for one team and, with the exception of Pairs or Solo competitors, may only complete one leg, otherwise the team shall be deemed “non-competitive”.
.Each member of a Pairs team must complete 2 of the 4 legs. They do NOT have to alternate. Each member of a four-member team must complete their leg of the race as designated on the entry form.
.There shall be no restrictions on team sponsors (including competitors to the event sponsors). However, NO branding other than on competitors clothing, equipment or seconding vehicles will be permitted.
.Any team or individual who wishes to withdraw at any time on the route should make this known to the officials at the start/finish area.
.Any team or individual who has not completed the last leg of the overall race (beach run) by 16h30 should withdraw and report to the official at the next transition area.
.Competitors will be responsible for the overall well-being and security of their equipment. With breaks between each of the 4 official race legs, competitors will have sufficient time to return and secure to their vehicles any equipment used during any particular leg (with special reference to mountain bikes and surf ski’s). There will be no specific holding area for any equipment.
.In the event of any leg of the race being cancelled due to dangerous conditions, the remaining legs of the race will be brought forward to earlier starting times. Make sure all your teammates are around from the start of the day’s events and/or are easily contactable to be notified of such changes.
